Airport Adventures

I dropped Mom off at the airport this morning. It was sad to see her go, but as usual, it was quite an adventure getting her to the airport. The "as usual" statement is generated because a couple of years ago, we were wasting her last day in town away by tooling around town and going out to eat at Culver's. When we returned home, I just happened to glance at her itinerary that was hanging on the fridge and noticed that her plan left in 1/2 an hour and not in the 4 hours that we were planning! YIKES! Mom ran downstairs while I called the airline to see if I could change her flight or if they could hold the plane. Well, we made it there JUST in time for her to catch her flight and all ended up well.

This year, only 2 min after pulling out of the driveway the fun begins! She panics about her itinerary so I have to pull over and get it out of her other bag. Then, we were on 494 and pulled into the fast lane (and I had PLENTY of room to pull into it) and a Mercedes with the vanity plate "Laidy 3" zooms up behind me. I could tell he wanted to go FAST (even though there were cars in front of me), so I pulled back over to the other lane as soon as I could. He proceeds to honk and flip me off - NICE!!! I laugh and of course, that made him made so he tried to cut me off. Then, Mom can't find her license in her purse, so she is all panicky again about that. So, we jump out at the airport and dig through her carry-on - no license. I am starting to shake at this point and she is gasping for breath like a pre-panic attack. I then dig through her purse again (the original location) and it was right where it was supposed to be!

For Mom's next visit, I think we will include a departure checklist and maybe I shouldn't do the driving!
